What is Neural Therapy?
Neural therapy is a treatment aimed at addressing chronic pain, chronic infections, illnesses, mood disorders and so much more. This is achieved by injecting local anesthetic (procaine) into different areas of the body including scars, peripheral nerves and sometimes directly into areas of pain. Neural therapy is NOT a nerve block (a common mistaken assumption) but rather a way to regulate autonomic nervous system dysfunction, which has been linked with many chronic conditions.
How does Neural Therapy work?
A healthy, resting nerve cell has what’s called a “resting membrane potential,” defined as the difference between the electrical charge inside and outside of the cell. When a healthy nerve cell is stimulated, it will quickly fire and the resting membrane potential is lowered temporarily so the nerve can send the response. When a nerve cell is damaged, which can happen in any number of ways (trauma, surgery, etc), the nerve is either overactive or underactive, causing it to respond in ways that cause the symptoms of chronic conditions. The injection of procaine around the damaged nerve cell restores the electrical charge or resting membrane potential so that healthy function returns and helps the autonomic nervous system return to proper functioning again.
